FIFA made the final selections basing on logistics, game venues, travel among other factors.
Lorne Donaldson, the head coach of the senior Reggae Girlz team, revealed that he is satisfied that his team will have their base in Melbourne, Australia all through the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Initially, FIFA had given all the teams a chance to view and pick 5 locations before the organization made the final selections basing on logistics, game venues, travel among other factors.
In October, Donaldson personally participated in viewing the possible venues and his attention was particularly caught by Melbourne. He had publicly stated that he wished his team to have the city as their base camp for training and preparation.
Now two months later, Donaldson’s wishes have been granted as his team which has been placed at position 42 worldwide were allocated the Novotel Melbourne Hotel in Preston. The outstanding Victorian State Football Centre will act as training ground for the Girlz during the global tournament that will run from July 20th to August 20th.
In the meantime, Michael Ricketts, the president of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), also disclosed that he was pleased with the TBC allocated to Jamaica and is now looking to focus on preparations.
Donaldson, together with his assistants Ak Lakhani and Xavier Gilbert, are still working on selecting the final squad that will play in the Cup of Nations tournament set for February next year in Australia and the World Cup.
This will be the Girlz second appearance at the World Cup in a row. They were drawn in a competitive Pool F together with Brazil and France. The Pool’s final team will be decided by the 10-team intercontinental play-offs scheduled for February.
