“BUNNY” SHAW Once Again Comes Through For City

Jamaican Khadija “Bunny” Shaw score the only goal in the game thus giving Manchester City a 1-0 victory

The Women’s Super League (WSL) resumed last weekend after the winter break. On Sunday, the WSL match between Manchester City and West Ham United went down at the latter club’s Chigwell Construction Stadium. The match saw Jamaican Khadija “Bunny” Shaw score the only goal in the game thus giving Manchester City a 1-0 victory.
Shaw, who was born in Spanish Town, is the current top scorer in the WSL. Sunday saw her raise her goal tally in the league to 9. She scored five minutes into the second half thus securing 3 points for City who are ranked fourth in the League standings.
Shaw received a perfect pass from teammate Deyna Castellanos which she carefully angled past the West Ham goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold. The ball was mostly in West Ham’s side of the field for most of the rest of the game whereby Shaw’s other effort hit the post and Arnold was able to save a strike from Castellanos.
This latest victory lengthened City’s unbeaten streak to 11 games in all tournaments. After enduring several defeats as the WSL campaign began, City is trying to catch up with Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea who are far much ahead.
Nonetheless, City is still a threat after beating Chelsea 2-0 in September last year and the Sunday 1-1 draw between Arsenal and league toppers Chelsea. They now need to secure 6 points to lead the standings which they hope to achieve in their next game.
Meanwhile, Reggae Boy Kemar Roofe netted a goal for Rangers’ on Sunday helping them beat Aberdeen 2-1 thus the team secured a spot in the Scottish League Cup finals. However, Roofe was forced to leave the match during the extra time due to a shoulder injury. The severity of the injury was later found to be alarming after a scan that was carried out on Monday.
