Coach Hallgrimsson said that he loves Richards’ unpredictability. He can dribble, cut in, score and shoot with both feet
Coach Heimir Hallgrimsson has revealed he believes that Dujuan ‘Whisper’ Richards is ready to deliver for the Reggae Boyz. Hallgrimsson recently included the 17-year-old in the 23-man team that will represent Jamaica in the Concacaf Gold Cup.
Richards is set to become the youngest player to represent Jamaica in a major tournament. Hallgrimsson believes that Richards has the talent to become one of the best players in Jamaica’s history.
This statement will go a long way in building the teenagers confidence. He has been receiving some criticism from some naysayers who believe that he is too young to represent Jamaica. However, majority of the fans are backing him to succeed.
Richards recently completed a move to European giants Chelsea FC. He also attracted interest from Newcastle United and Ajax FC. The fact that he is signed by one of the biggest clubs is proof enough that he is a very gifted player.
Coach Hallgrimsson sees him as a utility player who can used as an impact substitute. He can also be used a starting striker or winger when experienced players aren’t perfoming. Hallgrimsson believes that this experience can help him grow into a more prominent role in the team. He will be competing against Shamar Nicholson, Michail Antonio and Leon Bailey.
Coach Hallgrimsson said that he loves Richards’ unpredictability. He can dribble, cut in, score and shoot with both feet.
Richards will be hoping to show his talent in Jamaica’s first game against USA. The tournament is expected to begin this Saturday.
Richards’s inclusion has forced the coach to leave out some of the stand out local players. Some of them include: Cavalier’s Collin Anderson, the top scorer of the JPL, and Trivante Stewart, the league’s second-highest goal scorer. Coach Hallgrimsson said that he chose Richards because he believes that he has the highest ceiling. He wants to build him for the future.
Richards has already began rewarding Hallgrimsson’s faith with some high-quality performances. He created numerous chances against Qatar but Shamar Nicholson failed to convert them.
