Jamaica’s Shaw In The Running To Win Ballon d’Or Award

This award recognizes the world’s best-perfoming player in the previous season

Jamaican footballer Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw is in the running to win the 2023 Ballon d’Or award. This award recognizes the world’s best performing player in the previous season. It was established in 1956 by a French magazine that is known as “France Football.”
The Manchester City striker will be competing against big names like Sam Kerr(Australia), Millie Bright(England), Sophia Smith(USA) and Kadidiatou Diani (France).
The list also includes Aitana Bonmati (Spain), Amanda Ilestedt (Sweden), Yui Hasegawa (Japan), Rachel Daly (England) and Olga Carmona (Spain). Some of the other names include Guro Reiten (Norway), Hayley Raso (Australia), Daphne van Domeslaar (Netherlands), Fridolina Rolfo (Sweden) and Alba Redondo (Spain).
The 26-year-old Shaw was the second-highest scorer in Women’s Premier League. She scored 20 goals to help her team finish fourth in the league. Aston Villa striker Rachel Daly was the top scorer with 22 goals.
Shaw had a total of 31 goals in all competitions. This is the most goals that any Manchester City player has ever scored. She will be competing for the PFA women’s player-of-the-year award. She was included in the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Barclays Women’s Super League Team of the Year.
Shaw was the captain of the Reggae Girlz during the recently concluded FIFA Women’s World Cup. They had a historic run that saw them finish in the knockout stages. The team’s performances helped them get ranked higher. They’re currently ranked 37th; their best-ever ranking.
