Jackson won the 200 metres gold medal in the World Championships
World Athletics has named Shericka Jackson as the second-best sprinter in the world. The track and field governing body believes that the Jamaican was one of the best athletes in the 2023 season. Jackson won the 200 metres gold medal in the World Championships.
The Jamaican recorded the second fastest time ever in the half-lap event with a time of 21.41 seconds. She clocked this time while competing in Budapest. She also finished second in the 100m race with an impressive time of 10.72. The governing body awarded Jackson with 1558 ranking points.
The double sprint champion had an impressive season in which she won the Diamond League final. However, Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon was also in unstoppable form that saw her finish with 1584 points. Kipyegon won the 5000m and 1500m double in Budapest. Her brilliant season led her to record a world record time in the 1500m race.
Femke Bol finished in third place with 1524 points after outclassing her competitors in the 400m hurdles. Her dominance included wins in the Diamond League final and the World Championships. The Netherlands international has been praised by many neutrals.
Sha’Carri Richardson and Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia were the other athletes that were named in the top five list.
Richardson received 1506 points to finish in fourth place after recording a personal best of 10.65 in the women’s 100m. She also recorded a personal best 21.92 in the 200m race. Tsegay’s brilliant season saw her finish fifth with 1499 points. She won the Eugene Diamond League 5000m race with a time of 14: 00.21. The world record holder won a gold medal in the 10,000 metres at the Budapest World Championships.
