Digicel awarded two players after they won their essay competition
Digicel has provided scholarship grants to two of the best players in schoolboy football. Kishawn Valentine of Haile Selassie High and Nickoy Walters of Kingston Technical High will both receive a grant of $100,000 each.
The two recipients revealed that they will use the money to pursue their academic dreams. Digicel chose the two players after they won their essay competition. They were given the task of composing an essay that explained why they should be awarded with the scholarships. The coaches recommended the students that participated in the competition.
Elon Parkinson, Digicel’s Head of Communications and Corporate Affairs, was full of praise for the two recipients. He said that their triumphs proved that non-traditional high schools can now be considered as all-round institutions.
Parkinson revealed that athletic prowess isn’t the only skill that is being promoted by the schoolboy football tournament. He emphasized that they were also looking for academic excellence. He said that they were happy to encourage young athletes through their essay competition. He said that they were pleased to learn that young athletes also value education.
Parkinson revealed that the students took the contest seriously. They struggled to choose the best essays because the students tried their best to impress them. He insisted that Walters and Valentine were the most deserving awardees.
Walters revealed that he intends to pursue a major in accounting. He said that he is thankful that Digicel is contributing towards his dream career. He is currently am in sixth form and he studies Business.
On the other hand, Valentine revealed that he hopes to study overseas in the near future.
