She received this accolade after breaking the NJCAA discus record
Cedricka Williams, the former Jamaica junior and Holmwood Technical representative went into the history books after breaking the National Junior College Athletics Association discuss record. She won the event by throwing 57.57m and the NJCAA even named her as the athlete of the week. She was competing in the Wichita State KT Woodman Classic.
Williams of Baron Community College, succeeded in breaking the record of 56.51m(which was recorded in the NJCAA Division 1). She improved her college best record of 55.39m. She has a personal best time of 57.84m as the national junior record holder.
Williams broke the Barton CC record 53.15m. This record was previously owned by Marie Forbes; another Jamaican who earned it in 2019. Earlier, she had broken the ‘Juco’ record by more than a metre. In 2023, she boasted of winning the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships Class One girls’ discus competition.
A week ago, Maricia Spence, another Jamaican athlete, was declared the NJCAA national athlete of the week. This recognition came after she accumulated 5,791 points while competing in the heptathlon competition. This happened during the David Noble Relays, thereby ascending to the seventh position in the all-time rankings of NJCAA Division II.
She competed in the seven-event discipline, finishing the 100m hurdles in 13.62 seconds and dominating the long jump event with a personal best of 6.22m. She and her school teammates clocked 45.37s when they competed in 4x100m race.
