Jockey Innis Hit With A Serious Ban

Innis is expected to start serving his ban on June 23. This means that he will be missing in action until October 20, 2024

JOCKEY Jerome Innis will be forced out of action after being punished with a serious ban. The Jamaica Racing Commission will force him to pay a $20,000 fine as well as serving a ban of 25 racedays.
He was punished because of an infraction that happened when he was competing at Caymanas Park. This is the maximum punishment for this kind of infringement.
The JRC found him guilty of not putting his left foot in the stirrup irons. The commission believes that Innis did this in order to deliberately underperform. The jockey was riding WHISKY, a 3-5 favorite horse that is owned by Ainsworth Smith and trained by Errol Burke. He was competing in the 1100 metres race. The jockeys are expected to deliver the best possible performances from their mount.
The violation happened on June 2, 2024. The horse ended up coming fourth while competing in the six-horse field.
According to Antoine Nembhard, JRC’s chief steward, they decided to punish Innis because he didn’t give them a good explanation for his actions. He revealed that all jockeys are expected to meet a certain standard. The stewards felt that Innis ignored all the necessary steps required to ensure a complete performance.
Nembhard said that Innis should have informed the stewards if he had a problem before the race started. This information should have been relayed to the starters on duty.
Innis was given the maximum punishment in order to discourage other stewards from doing similar things.
Innis is expected to start serving his ban on June 23. This means that he will be missing in action until October 20, 2024. He has eight wins in the current season, he is ranked ninth in the jockeys’ title race.
