The 20-year-old Tia Clayton finished second while the third position was taken by Shelly Ann Fraser
Shericka Jackson was one of the stars who shined the brightest during the ongoing Jamaican National trials. She delivered a season’s best time of 10.84 seconds to ensure that she went home with the 100m title. This is her third consecutive 100m title. The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association hosted this event at the National Stadium.
Jackson didn’t start the race well but she managed to finish strongly. The 20-year-old Tia Clayton finished second with an impressive time of 10.90 seconds. The third position was taken by Shelly Ann Fraser, she finished with a time of 10.94 seconds. This is likely to be Pryce’s last race in Jamaica because she intends to retire at the Paris Olympics. The three athletes have booked their tickets to the prestigious global event.
The fourth position was grabbed by Shashalee Forbes in a time of 11.04 seconds. Kemba Nelson and Alana Reid followed her with similar times of 11.14 seconds. The seventh finisher was Briana Williams with a time of 11.15 seconds. On the other hand, Natasha Morriosn took the eighth position in 11.21 seconds.
The track and field competitors are expected to book their Olympics qualification by 30th June, 2024. The Olympic Games are expected to begin on 27th July, 2024.
On the other hand, Elaine Thompson-Herrah is not expected to defend her 200m and 100m titles in Paris. She is nursing an injury that forced her to pull out of the Jamaican trials.
This is unfortunate because she is the only female to win a sprints double. She is nursing an Achilles injury that happened during the New York Grand Prix. This means that veteran Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce and Shericka Jackson will be tasked with the responsibility of flying Jamaica’s flag.
