Steve Bruce Among The Candidates For Reggae Boyz Coaching Gig

The new coach will be announced to the public on August 1

The Jamaican Football Federation is expected to announce a new Reggae Boyz manager in the coming days. According to sources, Steve Bruce is emerging as one of the leading candidates.
The 63-year-old Bruce is a retired Manchester United player who has coached many teams in the English premiere league. He has been out of work since October 2022 when he was fired by West Bromwich Albion. In previous years, he has coached clubs like Sheffield Wednesday, Aston Villa and Newcastle United.
According to Daily Mail, the English coach was recently interviewed by JFF officials.
The Jamaican national team has been without a coach since Heimir Hallgrimsson walked away from the job. He now works with the Republic of Ireland.
The JFF is also considering other candidates for the job. One of the candidates is Jose Santos Peseiro. The 64-year-old is a former Real Madrid assistant coach who has managed 16 clubs.
Peseiro coached Venezuela, Saudi Arabia and Nigeria during the 2023 African Cup of Nations. His team was beaten by Ivory Coast in a final match that ended in a 2-1 score-line.
Peseiro has not coached since the beginning of this year. Interestingly, Peseiro is also known for being Jose Mourinho’s best friend. They are also considering ex-Reggae Boy Deon Burton and Miguel Coley.
The federation’s Technical Committee is expected to unveil its preferred candidate on Wednesday. This candidate will have to be approved by the JFF board.
The new coach will be announced to the public on August 1. The new coach is expected to lead the Boyz in the upcoming Nations League matches.
