The Jamaican team is treating this competition as an opportunity to gain experience
Jamaica Women’s Premier League champions Frazsiers Whip are expected to face Alajuelense of Costa Rica. The two teams will be competing in the Concacaf Women’s Club Championship.
Christopher Dowdy; the Frazsiers Whip’s coach, said that his team will have to bring their ”A game” because they will be facing experienced competitors. They will be competing in Costa Rica’s Alejandro Morera Soto Stadium.
“We will be competing against players who have been building chemistry for five to six years. This is because they have been playing together for a long time. We will push ourselves to the limit although our players have never participated in international club competitions. The results can favor us as long as we give of our best,” said Dowdy.
“We are treating this competition as an opportunity to gain experience. We don’t want to promise our fans an easy win but we can assure them that we will deliver an impressive performance. We are hoping to retain our JWPL title so that we can return into this competition with even more experience,” he added.
Frazsiers Whip have won the JWPL league title on back-to-back occasions. Unfortunately, they will be missing eight players in the Concacaf championship. This is a big blow because these players played a major role in the JWPL title win. These players have returned to United States colleges while others are pursuing scholarships. In spite of this, Dowdy believes that he has enough quality to deliver memorable performances.
“We want people to remember us as the team that entertained them the most. We wan to leave an impact so that they can wish for our return in the next season,” he said.
Alajuelense is Costa Rica’s best women’s team. They are the defending champions of their Premier Division.
