Reggae Girlz Lose In International Friendly Against France

The Jamaicans were humbled by a 3-0 loss

The Reggae Girlz recently lost in an international friendly against France. The Jamaicans succumbed to a 3-0 score-line. The two teams were competing at Stade Auguste-Bonal.
This is the first time that the two teams have played each other since the 2023 Women’s World Cup. The Girlz came in as the underdogs but they pulled off a surprise 0-0 draw. This match was played in Australia.
France took control early in the latest encounter. Clara Mateo gave France the lead with a well-taken goal that arrived in the 22nd minute. They found their second goal when Wendie Renard struck from close range in the 39th minute. The European giants sealed the win with a Sandy Baltimore goal in the 48th minute.
France tested the Jamaican goalkeeper with a total of 13 shots. They squeezed the life out of Jamaica thanks to their 74.8% possession. On the other hand, the Reggae Girlz couldn’t register a single shot on target.
It’s possible that the French players could have scored more goals but they missed several chances. However, the Reggae Girlz head coach Hubert Busby said that this was a good learning experience for his players. ”It was challenging match but there are many positives that we can take from it,” said Busby.
“I feel that my players kept on improving as they went deeper into the match. We were in enemy territory and we competed against a strong French team. This is the level of competition that we need to test ourselves against,” Busby said. This is important because we want to build experience before the next window.”
Busby said that his team failed to secure a win because he is integrating new players into the team. “Our performance was disjointed because we recently added new players into the group. It takes time to build chemistry between players who have no history of playing together. Now, we will focus on facing South Africa in our next match. This is match is expected to happen on November 25, 2025.
We will work on all the shortcomings that have been exposed today but we will maintain our principles.
This friendly against France will serve as preparation for the 2025 qualifiers of the Women’s World Cup.
