Trinidad and Tobago Appoints Man Utd Legend Dwight Yorke As Head Coach

The retired Manchester United striker is expected to help the Caribbean nation qualify for the 2026 World Cup

Trinidad and Tobago has appointed Dwight Yorke as the new head coach of their national football team. The retired Manchester United striker is expected to help the Caribbean nation qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
Yorke, who recently celebrated his 53rd birthday, said that he is excited by the idea of working with the Soca Warriors. He described the squad as a close-knit group that has a lot of untapped talent. He was officially announced by the nation’s Football Association.
The Soca Warriors will be hoping to break into the World Cup especially because it will be hosted in the region. The tournament will happen in the following countries: Canada, Mexico and the United States.
“I would like to build on what I achieved as a Trinidad and Tobago player. Everybody knows that I have a lot of love for my country,” said Yorke. The striker played a major role when the Soca Warriors reached the semi-finals of the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He was the leader of the squad when they participated in the 2006 World Cup. He has also served as the assistant manager in the past.
He added: “I experienced many unforgettable moments as a national team player. I am hoping to recreate some similar moments with the current squad I hope.”
Yorke is a football legend who is is remembered for his stint with Manchester United that lasted between 1998 and 2002. He was part of the legendary team that won a treble that included the UEFA Champions League in 1999. This team was led by Sir Alex Fergusson.
He also played for teams like Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Sunderland, Sydney FC and Birmingham City.
Yorke has coaching experience having worked for Macarthur FC; an Australian side. He only stayed with this team for six months, until January 2023.
According to Kieron Edwards; the association’s president, Yorke will bring leadership and experience into the squad. He believes that he can inspire the nation’s players to reach their full potential.
