Dominica Honors LaFond-Gadson After Winning Her Nation’s First-ever Olympic Gold Medal

This award was a recognition of the gold medal that she won in the Triple Jump event in the recent Paris Olympics

ROSEAU, Dominica — Thea LaFond-Gadson was recently honored with the Dominica Honour Award. This is the highest honor in Dominica. She wrote history when she became her nation’s first-ever Olympic gold medalist. She won this medal during the recent Paris Olympics.
This award was a recognition of the gold medal that she won in the Triple Jump event. She won a similar event during the World Indoor Championships.
Roosevelt Skerritt; the Prime Minister of Dominica, was full of praise for LaFond-Gadson. He praised her for putting Dominica on the map. This presentation happened during the nation’s Independence Day Rally.
Dominican President; Sylvanie Burton, was the one who presented the 30-year-old with the award. She was honored together with 18 other Dominicans who have been successful on the global stage.
LaFond-Gadson addresed the nation after she received her award. She said that was grateful to be celebrated by the leaders of her nation. She said that this is the “greatest achievement ever.” She said that young Dominicans should feel inspired to pursue their dreams without any fear of failure.
LaFond-Gadson was also honored by other people who didn’t attend the national ceremony.
The private sector honored LaFond-Gadson with a luncheon. The Dominican Government has also given her a new role as a sports ambassador. She also received a land grant and EC$400,000 (over $23 million).
