The two organizations have had a strained relationship in recent times
Garth Gayle; the president of JAAA, has said that he is hoping to build a good working relationship with the Jamaica Olympic Association. Gayle recently won an election, retaining his position as the president of the association.
He is hoping that Olivia “Babsy” Grange; the Minister of Sport, can organize meetings between the two associations.
Gayle said that the two sporting bodies believe in providing development and opportunities to the nation’s athletes. He believes that these organizations can work together because they share similar values.
He was speaking at the Jamaica College during the JAAA’s annual general meeting.
The two organizations have had a strained relationship in recent times.
There were marked differences leading up to the 2024 Olympic Games. The two entities clashed over which track and field coaches should be accredited. JAAA wanted to recognize more coaches while JOA claimed that the International Olympic Committee limited the coaches they could accredit.
“We serve under one flag and that’s why we have no choice but to work together. It’s all for the sake of our athletes,” Gayle said.
“If we listen to each other, we will be able to maintain our nation’s international success. This unity will also benefit our coaches, medical experts, technical operators, administrators and sponsors,” the president added.
Gayle is optimistic about what Jamaican athletes can achieve with the backing of the JOA and the JAAA.
