NAIA Names Houston And Campbell As Indoor Athletes Of The Week

They were celebrated because of the exceptional performances that they delivered over the weekend

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics has named Tajean Houston and Briana Campbell as their Athletes of the Week. The two Jamaicans were representing Texas Wesleyan University and Life University in Georgia respectively. They were celebrated because of the exceptional performances that they delivered over the weekend.

Campbell; who used to be a student artist at St Jago High, recorded the second-best time in 200m. She also broke the hurdles mark in the NAIA women’s 60m. She was competing in indoor events that were held at Clemson University. The event is known as the Bob Pollock Invitational.

In the semi-finals, Campbell recorded a time of 8.18 seconds in the 60m women’s hurdles. She was involved in the Jamaican team that won the gold medal in Under-20 Championships World Athletics. This medal was won in the 4x100m race. She recorded a time of 8.20 to break the NAIA record that previously belonged to Salieci Myles of William Carey University. Myles is a former student athlete who ran for Rusea’s High and Edwin Allen High.

She won her section of the 200m race during the meet’s second day. She emerged as the second-best athlete in the NAIA rankings; this was only 0.o1 seconds slower than the leader.

Houston registered a school record and personal best of 7.71 when he won the final of the 60 metres hurdles Invitational. The ex-Kingston College student is the defending NAIA champion.

His time was just 0.01 off the record; meaning that he boasts of having the NAIA’s second-best time of all time.

He reduced his previous NAIA leading time of 7.87. This meant that he had equaled his original PB of 7.77; this happened just thirty minutes before the final.
