He lost his battle with Alzheimer’s disease and died on Saturday morning.
Before his coaching career, Maxwell represented the Reggae Boyz as a towering defender.
He was the coach when Excelsior High won the Walker Cup and Manning Cup in the 1980s. He also guided Waterhouse to a premier league title in 1998.
He travelled a lot during his time as a coach. He had stints in Arnett Gardens, Hydel High, Santos, Humble Lion, St George’s SC, Harbour View, Maverley/Hughenden and Tivoli Gardens. He also coached several other teams in the schoolboy and national level.
In 2024, the Jamaica Football Federation celebrated him together with other football stalwarts. They were honored for helping in the growth of Jamaican football. The other honorees were Allan “Skill” Cole, Everton “Bob West” McLeary and Leander Marshall.
