Tina Clayton defeated Shericka Jackson when they met in the World Indoor Qualifier. The two women were competing in the Women’s 60m race. The event was held in Spanish Town, Jamaica.
The ex-Under-20 champion believes that this victory will play a major role in boosting her career. She won the event with a time of 7.08 seconds; which is the best she has recorded this season. The event was held at G C Foster College of Physical Education and Sport.
The second place went to her MVP teammate Natasha Morrison. The third position was clinched by Kishawna Niles who studies at the University of Technology. They secured personal best times of 7.09s and 7.12s respectively.
On the other hand, Jackson finished fourth with a time of 7.14s. This was an understandable performance because she was returning from injury.
Tina Clayton told journalists that she was satisfied with her performance. Clayton comes from a talented family, with her sister Tia finishing seventh in the last Olympic Games (100m final).
“This performance will help boost my confidence. It will make me train even harder in my training camps,” Clayton said, flashing a broad smile.
She said that her coach was happy with how she executed the race.
Clayton and her team are yet to decide if she will participate in this month’s World Athletics Indoor Championships. Currently, she is only focused on having a successful season and staying healthy.
The Men’s 60m event saw Rohan Watson emerge as the winner of the Men’s 60m race. Watson; who is the National 100m champion, finished with a personal best of 6.50s. The second position was taken by Nishion Ebanks who secured a time of 6.57s. Cejhae Green took the third place with in 6.59s.
The Bahamas was represented by Wendell Miller who won the Men’s 400m with a time of 45.95s. Rusheen McDonald finished second despite having a similar time. The third position was clinched by Delano Kennedy with a time of 46.40s.
Janieve Russell needed a time of 53.57s to deliver gold in the Women’s 400m. Annalice Brady was second with a time of 54.54s. The third position was clinched by Jezelle Shaw who secured a time of 55.18s.
On the other hand, Lamario Wright won the Men’s 800m after securing a season’s best of 1:53.66 minutes.
