Harris also boasts of being the president of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU)

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados — Randy Harris has been elected to the FIFA Council. The Barbados native has been serving as the president of the Barbados Football Association. He was congratulated by Mia Mottley; the prime minister of Barbados.

This is the first time that a citizen from Barbados has been elected to this prestigious seat. He was elected during the Concacaf congress. This was the 40^th anniversary of the event. It was held in St Lucia.

Harris also boasts of being the president of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU).

Mottley was full of praises for Harris. He described his election as “an achievement that will go down in the history of Barbados.” He insisted that Harris deserved everything that was coming his way. He made these comments through a social media post.

“We would like to congratulate Harris for being elected in an organization that operates at the highest level of football. Barbados has never had another individual who has occupied such a big office,” Mottley said.

“He deserves this opportunity because he has been a football leader for approximately five decades. He has always shown dedication and leadership as an administrator in the Caribbean and Barbados.”

“We believe that he will use his position to champion local and regional football on a bigger platform,” the prime minister added.

Harris, 69, revealed that he is only seeking a single term.

However, he is hoping to continue his work as the President of the Barbados Football Association.

“I feel honored to be elected as a FIFA Council member. It will be a privilege to work for the biggest football governing body in the world,” said Harris.

“I hope that I can use my voice to strengthen the standard of football in the Caribbean. The FIFA president wants football to grow and it’s our role to support his vision,” Harris said.
