The Reggae Boyz will tonight continue their Road to Qatar campaign in San Jose, to face the Costa Rican National Team. The Reggae Boyz has not registered a point from the first two games of the Final Round of the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers against Mexico and Panama, while the Costa Ricans has manage to register just 1 point. History is in favor of the Costa Ricans has the record stands, the Reggae Boyz has lost all 7 appearances in Costa Rica and conceded amass total of 23 goals and managed to only score 3 goals, dated back from 1965. The Reggae Boyz will be without the majority of the overseas players in Ravel Morrison, Daniel Johnson, Bobby Reid, Ethan Pinnock, Liam Moore, Michail Antonio, Kemar Roofe and Wesley Harding. The squad that made the trip to Costa Rica is similar to the one that was in the Azteca for that narrow 2-1 defeat. The only significant change to be had is of the 38 year old Defensive Midfielder long serving stalwart JeVaughn Watson coming in for the young defender Richard King of Cavaliers United, team from the Jamaica Premier League. Despite the lost in Mexico with this squad, if coach Theodore “Tappa” Whitmore gets the tactics right against Costa Rica, a different tune could be playing.
As for what the line-up could look like tonight? No question Andre Blake in goal, Damion Lowe is back from his injury sustained in the Mexico game, seeing him missing the Panama game, pairs up with Veteran Adrian Mariappa. At left-back, Kemar “Taxi” Lawrence has played some good amount of minutes over the last 2 games but he will have to dig deep and do the job. In the right-back position, as for Alvas Powell or Javain Brown? Alvas Powell looks a little bit tired so Javain Brown should get a chance to see if he can get the job done. In the midfield pairing of Devon “Speedy” Williams and Anthony Grant looks to most liable partnership as for 89 minutes they did a tremendous job in Mexico before Anthony Grant was substituted. Left-Midfield Blair Turgott could get the start, as he did exceptionally well in the Gold Cup and yet to see some playing time over the last 2 games and on the Right-Midfield the energetic Junior Flemming could get the start. In form striker Shamar Nicholson who scored in Mexico a big feat in its self gets the leading front role, and a logical and thoughtful thought a Javon East who ply’s his trade in Costa Rica and are very familiar with the players and the atmosphere, could play behind the striking role that Shamar Nicholson possess. Forever wishing the Reggae Boyz a good improved game.
