Today, The West Indies Women are expected to keep performing at high level despite their victory over Pakistan during the opener last Monday. The two will meet today for a match in a race to become the champions of the series. West Indies Women were able to play to a substantial win of 45 over the Karachi of Pakistan. The play happened at the National Stadium where Deandra Dottin was behind the opener. This allowed their opponents to gather up 253 for 8.
Coach Robert Samuel, who is the current assistant coach for the West Indies Women stressed that they were not supposed to be content in any way. He warned them that the coaching staff were not settling for less either. They expect the Women to perform well in all their outings.
In a media conference, he went on to say that they will discard any notion of gratification, their main aim is to give a wonderful performance. He was not reluctant to say that the team ought to score 250 and above as they were in search of world-class performances. He made it clear that they were looking for more wins this season. He congratulated Deandra Dottin for her great international score and asked the team for performances that were more like those of Hayley Matthews.
The assistant coach said that most teams tend to relax a little bit after a major win, but this would not be the case for the West Indies Women. He urged them to strive and be better if not similar to their last performance. At the ODI, the Women suffered a 4-1 defeat over South Africa Women in their homeland but were able to redeem themselves after they beat Pakistan Women to a 3-2 win. The series was in the Caribbean and it was compromised of five matches.
They had also won over Pakistan in the ODI series played in 2019. The game was held in the United Arab Emirates. They lost two of the games after they championed the first game. Samuel stressed that the West Indies Women had to be ruthless and press towards higher levels of victory in the coming games. He advised the Women to hold Pakistan to under 180 or thereabout. The Women would therefore have to be on their toes.
Being their first time to play in the Pakistan soil, the coach did not hesitate to say that the Women had to get used to the different playing conditions for them in order to be considered world class. Pakistan acquired 200 runs the last time, however this time they would have to work harder as the West Indies Women plan to restrain them on 180 runs only. Due to the upcoming ICC World Cup qualifiers that will be held in Zimbabwe in late November, West Indies are utilizing the three-match series for their preparations. They are also eyeing 2022 games in New Zealand and hope to secure a place in the showpiece.
