They Participated in the 34th Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship in Puerto Rico
Jamaica’s junior golf players returned home in high spirits after their recent outing. They returned having won historic trophies from the 34th Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship in Puerto Rico. However, no woman had ever won any age group in the Caribbean championship.
The fact that no female had won before did not stop Samantha Azan and Emily Mayne from signing their class on the events and writing their names in local junior golf history books. Mayne was so proud of her performance in the Caribbean competition.
According to Mayne, the conditions were very tough on the first day as they had a lot of showers that day, making it difficult to keep dry.
Despite the challenges, they tried their best to stay focused and to do exercise. On the second day, Mayne shot her best score, which was one under for the tournament and was the best round for the girls.

Mayne was excited to be the first girl to win, being in the category of 18 years and below. She was the first Jamaican girl to win the match and scored 74,70, and 80 for 11 over par 224.
She also tied with Emily Edwin of Barbados for the first position. Eryn Blakely, who represented Jamaica in the 18 years and below, was placed 7th after scoring 251.
On the other hand, Azan won the 15 and under category by one shot ahead. The shot was ahead of another Jamaican, Mattea Issa, who led by two strokes at the beginning of the 18th hole. She scored 231 on the back of 74,79,78 while Issa ended on 232 (76,75,81).
