This loss means that Antonio’s WestHam now sits in the 15th position in the English premier league
Jamaica striker Michail Antonio was on the score sheet in a high-scoring match against Crystal Palace. Antonio’s WestHam was on the wrong side of a 4-3 score-line that condemns them to a relegation battle.
Tomas Soucek opened the scoring in the first 10 minutes. Soucek pounced on a loose ball that arrived in the Crystal Palace box after a brilliant corner kick from Jarrod Bowen. Palace, also known as the Eagles, responded with three back-to-back goals before the 30th minute. The Eagles goals came from Jordan Ayew, Wilfried Zaha, and Jeffrey Schlupp.
Ayew pounced with a 15th minute goal after receiving a beautifully-weighted through ball from youngster Michael Olise.
WestHam was unlucky to see Kurt Zouma limp off after being injured by Ayew’s studs. Zouma has been one of the Hammers best defenders and coach Dean Smith looked frustrated when he saw him come off the pitch. He was replaced by Ogbonna.
The Eagles flipped the game on its head when Wilfred Zaha scored their second goal in the 20th minute. Zaha arrived in the far post to finish off a beautifully-worked team move. Michael Olise and Ayew were involved in the creatio of this goal.
Crystal Palace was not done with punishing WestHam. It was only a matter of time before Jeffrey Schlupp added another goal in the 30th minute.
Antonio came to WestHam’s rescue by cutting the deficit in the 35th minute. However, the Eagles restored their two-goal advantage with an Eberechi Eze penalty in the 66th minute. WestHam defender Nayef Aguerd reduced the deficit with a 72nd minute goal that ensured that the closing minutes ended up with a tense manner.
This loss means that Antonio’s WestHam now sits in the 15th position in the English premier league. They have 34 points, which is just four points above the 18th-ranked team in the relegation zone.
