Bailey has emerged as a fan-favorite because he is one of the best wingers in the English premier league.
Jamaican international Leon Bailey has officially signed a new contract with Aston Villa. However, the club didn’t reveal how long this contract will last.
The winger arrived in the English club in 2021 for a fee of £25m. He was one of the attackers that were signed to replace Jack Grealish. Earlier in the summer, Villa had earned £100 million after Grealish completed his move to Manchester City.
Bailey’s first season was marred by constant injuries. He secured one goal and two assists after starting only seven times. He improved in the second season, recording 5 goals and 4 assists. The winger’s form got a significant boost with the arrival of new coach Unai Emery. He was one the key players when Villa secured European football with a seventh-place finish.
The Jamaican is currently enjoying his best season for Aston Villa Park. He has scored 10 goals in all competitions and he is likely to score more before the end of the season. He has now reached 87 appearances for the club.
Bailey has emerged as a fan-favorite because he is one of the best wingers in the English premier league. He is now competing with the likes of Mohammed Salah, Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden. This is a remarkable transformation considering that the same fans wanted him sold out of the club in the last season.
Last season, Bailey improved following the arrival of Unai Emery, and played his role in helping the club qualify for European football with a seventh-placed finish.
The club was forced to give him a new contract because he established himself as a leader in Emery’s team. The Jamaican’s current contract was set to expire by the end of next season. The new contract also means that the club has secured Bailey’s true value and they can demand a big sum if a bigger club comes in for him.
Bailey’s side has been competing for the top-four positions in this year’s premier league season. They can secure Champions League football if they finish in the first four positions. He was recently involved in Villa’s last game versus Manchester United. He provided Douglas Luiz’s assist although they suffered a 2-1 loss.
Villa is only one point behind Tottenham, who are currently fourth in the league.
Only striker Ollie Watkins has scored more goals for Aston Villa in the EPL. He has also scored once in the Europa Conference League. Additionally, he also scored twice during qualifying stages of that competition.
