In 2022, he won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games
Rasheed Broadbell; who won a bronze medal in the Paris Olympics, is working on winning the gold medal in the upcoming World Athletics Championships. This event is expected to take place in Tokyo, Japan in September. He normally competes in the 110 metres hurdles.
He has experience of winning international tournaments. In 2022, he won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games.
He revealed that he is hoping to secure the top medal again.
“I would like to be on the podium and this time I would like a gold medal. I was in top form in 2024 and that’s why I was gutted that I wasn’t on the podium. I am hoping to correct that mistake this year,” he said.
Broadbell fell in the heats at the 2023 World Athletics Championships. However, he revealed that performance is now behind him. He has been making steady progress in the current season and he will be hoping that this translates into good performances.
“I have been having great training camps and my body is in top shape. I have a feeling that I am going to have a great season,” the 24-year-old said.
He is training from the MVP Track Club after leaving Elite Performance Track Club. He believes that this new environment is the reason his training performances have changed. His new camp is led by Stephen Francis.
HEAVILY MOTIVATED
“I am training in one of the world’s best training facilities and that’s why I’m feeling heavily motivated. I can wait to get the season started,” he said.
Broadbell said at this point, he feels no pressure to go after what he wants, the World Athletics Championships gold.
“I am not feeling any pressure. I only feel the pressure when my body lets me down,” he said with complete confidence.
“Thinking about my family helps me forget about any pressure that I might be feeling. I am motivated to provide for them. That is what drives me,” he added.
Broadbell boasts of personal best of 12.94 seconds. He is a few seconds behind Omar McLeod’s national record of 12.90.
