Portmore had a promising start and almost opened the scoreboard with an impressive strike
Portmore United lost their first game this season to Cavalier FC after they were beaten 2-1 by the latter team who are now at the top of the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) standings. Rudolph Speid, Cavalier’s coach, revealed that he was very pleased with this outcome.
After this victory, Cavalier have now secured 21 points defeating Mount Pleasant who have 19. Mount Pleasant are set to play today.
Cavalier’s first goal was first scored by Ronaldo Webster shortly before the break but Portmore’s Emelio Rousseau balanced the score during the 53rd minute. However, during the 66th minute, Cavalier’s Collin Anderson netted another goal thus marking his 9th goal this season. This goal is what secured Cavalier’s victory.
Portmore had a promising start and almost opened the scoreboard when an impressive strike by Akeem Mullings hit the goal post. A few moments later, Rousseau’s efforts hit the fan when he failed to convert a free kick from 20 yards away.
Portmore’s defence led by Rodolph Austin was a huge challenge for Cavalier who are usually a threat during match kick off. They made it hard for them to create any real openings. All the same, Webster was able to maneuver past them to net the opening goal shortly before half-time.
Shortly after the break, a well-angled strike from Rousseau got past goalkeeper Vino Barclett hence restoring balance. Austin then almost scored for Portmore but Barclett saved the goal. During the 66th minute, another corner gave forward Anderson a chance which he used to score through a perfect cross hence giving Cavalier the lead.
According to Portmore’s coach, Phillip Williams, he was really disappointed with the match outcome as they had been on a winning streak of 6 matches.
