CWI To Vote For Vice President On September 20

The CWI officials were forced to call for a new election because of a court case

Cricket West Indies is expected to conduct an election for the position of Vice President. The CWI Board of Directors made this decision after a meeting on Thursday, August 8. The officials were reacting to a ruling that was delivered by the High Court of Guyana.
The CWI officials decided that the election would happen on September 20, 2024.
The court ruling was in response to a filing that challenged the legitimacy of the previous election of the Vice President. The case was filed by the Guyana Cricket Board. The result of this court case forced the CWI officials to call for a new election.
This decision has forced Mr Azim Bassarath to resign from his position as vice president.
According to Dr Kishore Shallow; the CWI President, this situation will provide an opportunity to strengthen their organization’s Memorandum and Articles of Association. He believes that CWI is built to deal with unpredictable situations like this one. This is because the organization has a very strong constitution. He insisted that this situation will be used to demonstrate the CWI’s ability to evolve in all circumstances.
Shallow was also full of praise for Mr Bassarath. He praised him for handling the situation with a lot of professionalism. “I would like to send my gratitude to him for carrying himself with decorum,” said Shallow.
According to the organization’s Articles of Association, there will be a Special Meeting on September 20, 2024. The members will use this meeting to vote for a new vice president.
CWI reiterated that they are committed towards upholding values like transparency an democratic. The officials promised that the elections will be conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
