While Dominic Young is playing in England and the NRL, his brother Alex Young, also a Jamaican international, has signed with Newcastle Thunder.
Young is the 7th player that has been added to the team by head coach Chris Thorman in preparation of the 2023 season. This comes after the winger left Workington Town. He started his career playing for Oulton Raiders. He later spent some time in the academy that serves Super League teams Huddersfield Giants and Leeds Rhinos.
The 23-year-old Young then decided to focus on his education by joining Northumbria University where he played for the university’s rugby team that won the national cup both in 2019 and 2018. In 2020, the utility back joined Workington where he made 40 appearances in the recent three seasons while at the club. Due to his consistency, he got called up to play for the Jamaican national team in the Rugby League World Cup.
His first game with the Reggae Warriors was their opening match against Ireland and in their third and last match against Lebanon.
Young revealed that he is really anticipating the new season as he is very excited to join Newcastle Thunder. Thorman also said that he met Alex shortly after he left the Huddersfield Giant’s academy and was enjoying some publicity for being selected to play in Jamaica’s Rugby League World Cup team. This was when his brother Dominic was playing for England.
