Ishna James; who represents Edwin Allen High School, has been released from hospital. The multi-talented athlete collapsed during the 800m race at the ISSA GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships. The recently-concluded games were held at the National Stadium.
James failed to finish the race despite being on the verge of capturing gold. She was ahead of her nearest rival with a dominant 230-point lead. She has always been a dominant force in the eight-discipline event. She was competing in the finale of the girls’ heptathlon.
She fell to the turf after finishing the initial 250 metres. The officials revealed that they took her to the Kingston Public Hospital because she was unresponsive.
The initial reports revealed that she had suffered from a case of ‘severe dehydration.’ These rumors sparked panic amongst her schoolmates with many believing that she had a mild stroke.
Fortunately, these rumors were dismissed by the doctors. The doctors released her and said that she was healthy enough to compete. However, she will have to drink a lot of water.
James still finished fourth overall despite failing to score in the finale. She registered a total of 3,985 points.
Calah McDonald; who represents Hydel High School, amassed 4,464 points to ensure that she claimed the gold medal.
