The former Jamaica College player is expected to add creativity into the Reggae Boyz midfield
Reggae Boyz coach Heimir Hallgrimson has called up midfielder Tyreek Magee into the national team. He will be part of the squad that will play a friendly match against Guatemala on Saturday. The game is expected to happen at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey.
This is the first time that Magee will feature in more than a year. The 24-year-old last played for the Reggae Boyz in June, 2022. He played 71 minutes against Suriname in a Concacaf Nations League game. He was in the squad for the next two games, but he remained as unused substitute.
Magee plays his club football for the Colorado Springs Switchbacks. This is a team that competes in the United Soccer League (USL).
This is the first time that coach Hallgrimsson has called up Magee. The former Jamaica College player is expected to add creativity into the Reggae Boyz midfield. Local fans have been asking for Magee to be included in the squad. The Reggae Boyz midfielders have been struggling to create chances for the strikers.
A member of the technical staff revealed that the call-up is an opportunity for Magee to make big impression. He can earn a spot in the World Cup qualification squad if he delivers an impressive performance.
The Reggae Boyz are also set to play against Canada in the Concacaf Nations League first-leg match. This game is expected to happen next Friday inside the National Stadium.
