Heimir Hallgrimsson; the Reggae Boyz head coach, has recommended that Jamaica should improve their facilities and introduce a proper coaching education. He believes that these two factors are the main contributors to player development.
The Icelandic football manager recently concluded a two-month tour of Jamaica. He hosted coaching clinics and evaluated the country’s football facilities.
Hallgrimsson told journalists that theses improvements would quicken the process of churning out players. This new structure will also improve the quality of the players. He hopes that the Jamaica Football Federation and other authorities will implement his recommendations.
Hallgrimsson said that these new improvements can also be applicable to women’s football. He believes that the gap between women’s and men’s football is too wide. He believes that young girls have less access to training facilities when compared to boys. He believes that these are the two main improvements that can be made although there are other factors that contribute to developing good players.
He insisted that local coaches have shown a lot of enthusiasm at the possibility of improving their craft. However, he feels that their growth has been stagnated by a lack of knowledge and world-class facilities. He noted that the the Jamaican coaching system might be getting outdated.
Over the last two months, the Jamaican coach has been trying his best to increase the capacity of local coaches. His training projects have supported by the Jamaica Football Federation.
Hallgrimsson revealed that the local coaches have responded positively to his coaching methods. They have already began adopting his tactics because they can see the benefits of modern training methods. He challenged the administrators to adopt these new changes even for women’s football.
