Hyde Retires From Athletics

Hyde represented Jamaica in the 2016, 2020, and 2024 in the Olympic Games

Jaheel Hyde has announced that he is retiring from his career in athletics. The 400 metres hurdles Olympian and Pan American gold medalist made the announcement through his Instagram page.

“I came into the sport with the aim of being the best athlete. I have always wanted to inspire young athletes. I was good in football and track, but I found my success in track,” he said. God helped me set world records as a junior and win numerous medals. I’m glad to have competed against some of the world’s best athletes.”

She won notable medals in junior level competitions like the Carifta Games and the ISSA-GraceKennedy Girls’ and Boys Championships. She also had an impact on the world stage. In 2013, he won 110m hurdles in the World Youth Championships. In 2014, he won a gold medal in the same discipline when he competed in the Summer Youth Olympics.

He won the 2014 and 2016 World Junior Championships while competing in the 400m hurdles race.

While he didn’t have the most fruitful senior career, Hyde managed to win the 2023 Pan American Games while participating in the 400m hurdles. In 2018 and 2022, he also claimed bronze and silver medals in the Commonwealth Games.

Hyde represented Jamaica in the 2016, 2020, and 2024 in the Olympic Games. In 2017, 2022, and 2023, he was part of the World Athletics Championship. During the 2022 World Championships, the finished in the sixth position during finals of the 400m hurdles.

The 28-year-old said that he has learnt values like discipline and perseverance from the sport of athletics. He hopes to use these values in the next phase of his life.

Hyde has received praise from numerous national sports figures. He was also celebrated by active and retired national athletes like Reggae Boy Damion Lowe, Christopher Taylor, Kemar Mowatt, Ristananna Tracey, and Rasheed Broadbell. They claimed that to have received inspiration from Hyde’s career.

Though not revealing the path he will now take, Hyde says he hopes his career in track and field would have positively impacted the lives of many. Hyde thanked these athletes for their kind words. He also thanked his fans, coaches, friends and family.

He also thanked Puma for sponsoring his career and believing in him.
