Jamaica Investing In Beach Volleyball Ahead Of 2028 Olympics

Jamaica will be hoping to qualify for the tournament for the first time ever

Jamaica Volleyball Association is working on a plan that will see Jamaica qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games. This tournament will be hosted by Los Angeles.
It’s unfortunate that Jamaica hasn’t had a proper beach volleyball programme although the nation’s beaches are popular with tourists.
There are at least 40 nations that have participated in beach volleyball ever since the sport was launched in the 1996 Summer Games. The men and women’s sport has grown tremendously over the years. In fact, there was an increase in viewership and sold out crowds when the sport was played in the Paris Olympics.
Jamaica will be hoping to qualify for the tournament for the first time ever. The closest that the Island nation has come to qualifying was in 2016. In fact, the Caribbean region has only been represented by Puerto Rico and Cuba at the Olympics.
According to Jacqueline Cowan, the JAVA President, Jamaica needs to invest in its beaches so that they can facilitate the sport. She revealed that most beaches are not usable because they are in private hotels.
Cowan insisted that there are many reasons why some of the alternatives are also not sufficient.
However, Cowan said that Jamaica can qualify for LA 2028 because they’ve started planning in advance. This is within Cowan’s jurisdiction because she also happens to be the VP of the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA).
Jamaica has competed in regional championships like Central American and Caribbean Games as well as NORCECA tournaments.
