The award celebrates values of Olympism—valor, sportsmanship, character and unyielding grit
The Jamaica Olympic Association has honored Jaydon Hibbert with an Olympic Spirit Award. The triple jumper was recognized because of his unforgettable performance in this year’s Olympic games. The athlete was hindered by an injury but still clinched a fourth place finish in his pet event.
The JOA praised Hibbert for giving a good account of himself despite being injured. They also praised him for showcasing Jamaica in a positive light and being patriotic. He was the youngest athlete in the field at just 19 years old. He narrowly missed a medal by 0.03 centimeters.

World Athletics has also nominated him for their ”Rising Star Award”. He has been has been nominated for this award in the last two years.
Hibbert showed a lot of humility and gratitude during his acceptance speech.
“I am humbled to be recognized by my country. My spirit was tested during the Olympic games. This award confirms that I am on the right direction. I hope to deliver a lot of medals for Jamaica,” he said.
Christopher Samuda, President of the JOA, said that it’s their job to celebrate an athlete’s character as well his/her performances on the field.
The Jamaica Olympic Association also recognized other athletes who won medals in Paris Olympic games. However, Hibbert stood out because he showed characteristics of a true champion. He did not allow his injury to slow down his Olympic spirit.
It’s clear that Hibbert has inspired many Jamaicans judging by the applause that he received while receiving his award. It’s clear that he has a bright future.
