"Uniting Jamaica through Sports"

Jamaican Athletes Praised By The International Olympic Committee

The Jamaicans finished the tournament with three silver, one gold and two bronze medals

Thomas Bach; the president of the International Olympic Committee, recently praised Jamaica for bringing entertainment to the 2024 Olympic games. This is a huge compliment considering many people believe that the Island nation underperformed in the tournament.
Bach emphasized that Jamaica was one of the nations that contributed to a successful tournament.
The Jamaicans finished the tournament with three silver, one gold and two bronze medals. All these accolades were achieved through four disciplines in track and field. The nation was represented by fifty-eight athletes.
Many sport enthusiasts believe that the Island nation should have went home with a bigger medal haul. Over the years, Jamaican athletes have established themselves as a dominant force in the world of track and field. The nation has produced big names like Usain Bolt, Elaine Thompson-Herah, Yohan Blake, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson.
Bach made these comments while speaking to members of the Jamaica Olympic Association. The members were celebrating the athletes who won medals in the Olympic games.
He praised the athletes for being good ambassadors of Jamaica. They showed a positive attitude throughout the Olympics.
“The Jamaicans showed us that Olympic Games are much more than sport. The competition is about togetherness, peace and solidarity. I would like to thank the Jamaicans for creating a culture of peace,” Bach said.
Bach reminded the audience that the tournament was created in order to promote the spirit of peaceful coexistence. He encouraged the audience to continue practicing these values in their daily lives.
Bach was praised by JOA President Christopher Samuda. He claimed that he was one of the best IOC president. His term is expected to come to an end in the next year.
The IOC will vote for a new president will be elected in March, 2025. Sebastian Coe; the World Athletics President, will be among the seven candidates who will compete for the position.
