This was the third time that the Jamaican team has had an opportunity to qualify into the top 16
The Jamaican men’s team failed to qualify for the Olympic games in the 4×400 metres relay race. The team was represented by a quartet of Tarees Rhoden, Kimar Farquharson, Jevaughn Powell and Raheem Hayles. They won the Bahamas event with a time of 2:59.75.
The four athletes were participating in the NACAC new Life Invitational World Athletics Continental Silver meet. The Jamaicans failed to get a better time than Zambia’s 2:59.12 which. Zambia finished as the 16th and final team to book a place in the this year’s Olympics. The tournament will be held in Paris, France. The event will begin on 26 July 2024.
The team gave it their best shot but it wasn’t good enough to get them into the Olympics. Hayles started the race on a good note with Powell delivering a solid second leg. There was a healthy lead when Farquharson took over the race. He delivered a decent performance in the third leg. Rhoden finished the race strongly but he fell short of the qualification time. The Barbados team finished second after clocking 3:03.65.
This was the third time that the Jamaican team has had an opportunity to qualify into the top 16. In early May, they failed two times during the World Athletics Relays, another contest that happened in the Bahamas. During this tournament, they finished third in their first round heat and were fifth in the second qualifying run. They would have qualified if they among the two best teams.
