Jamaica’s Ashley McKenzie Shines In Judoka Olympic Contests

He created history by being Jamaica’s first male athlete to win a judoka fight

Jamaica’s Ashley McKenzie has made history while competing in the ongoing Olympic games. The Judoka practitioner was the first male Jamaican athlete to compete in the tournament. He was competing in the men’s 60kg category.
McKenzie secured a spot in the Round of 16 after an impressive 10-0 victory over Hesham Makabr of Yemen. This victory came during the preliminary stages. The two athletes were competing in Champ de Mars Arena in Paris.
He proceeded to defeat Makabr in the next stage. Makabr received two yellow cards while his opponent received one.
The UK-based McKenzie was in great form leading into the Olympic Games. In 2023, he made history by winning a bronze medal during the Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC).
The 35-year-old McKenzie has represented the UK in the previous Olympic Games. However, he decided to represent Jamaica for the first time. He created history by being Jamaica’s first male athlete to win a judoka fight. He has represented the UK in three previous Olympic Games.
However, he ended up being eliminated Turkey’s Salih Yildiz. This 1-0 loss came during the round of 16 tie.
Ebony Drysdale-Daley was the first Jamaican to compete in judoka in the 2021 Olympic Games. She ended up losing her first contest to Barbara Timo of Portugal.
