JOA Wants Boxing Added To The 2028 Olympics

There were plans for the sport to be excluded in this competition because of a dispute between International Olympic Committee and the sport’s global governing body (IBA)

The Jamaica Olympic Association has said that it would like for boxing to be included in the next Olympic Games. Christopher Samuda; who is the organization’s president, said that it would be a travesty if the sport was left out of the competition.

There were plans for the sport to be excluded in this competition because of a dispute between International Olympic Committee and the sport’s global governing body.

In 2019, boxing had been removed from the competition after the IOC suspended the International Boxing Association. The IBA was suspended because it had failed to implement reforms.

“We are likely to implement a recommendation that allows for the re-introduction of boxing into the Olympic programme. I believe that boxers will get a chance to shine in the next Olympic Games that will be held in Los Angeles,” said IOC president Thomas Bach.

Samuda, the JOA president, believes that this is good news for all the boxers in the world. He described boxing as a traditional sport that should never miss in the Olympic Games.

“Boxing embodies the Olympic spirit because an athlete has to have strength, resilience, and valor. The sport has also played a major role in creating employment and alleviating poverty,” said Samuda.

He believes that the current will receive this news well. He also believes that that the boxers will now have adequate time to prepare for the competition.
