Kemar Roofe recently showcased his love for his father by dedicating his goal against Honduras to him. This was Roofe’s debut goal for the Jamaican national team in a match that ended with a 2 -0 score line in favor of the Reggae Boyz.
Shamar Nicholson hit a shot that was on its way to the back of the net when Kemar Roofe redirected it towards goal. The 28-year-old forward who plays his club football for Rangers gave Jamaica the lead in the 38th minute. His goal was fully deserved and he showcased excellent movement by strategically placing himself in the opposition box.
Roofe said that “This is one of the best moments of my career and nothing feels better than scoring for your country. My dad has helped me in my journey to play for Jamaica and I would therefore like to thank him and dedicate this goal to him.’’
Roofe said that he was disappointed that they couldn’t get three points against Canada and therefore its massive that the Reggae Boyz were able to defeat Honduras. He said that the draw against Canada gave his team solidarity and belief that they could compete against any opponent; it is this energy that they used to overcome Honduras.
The Reggae Boyz had to endure a nervy second half which saw Honduras throw everything at them. Honduras tried their best to rescue a point but it simply wasn’t their day.
Oniel Fisher killed-off Honduras with a sublime goal in the second half to ensure Jamaica went home with all the spoils. This is the Reggae Boyz’s third victory in World Cup qualifiers in Central America. The Jamaican coaching team will be impressed by the calm performance that saw the Boyz reasonably hold out Honduras in the second half.
This will go down in history as Jamaica’s first win in Honduras. The game was held at the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula.
Kemar Roofe said that he was happy to score his first goal for Jamaica and he hopes that the goals keep flowing. Strikers normally feel pressure from their coaches and fans who are never happy if they don’t score frequently.
Kemar Roofe has had an impressive career having played for some of the best teams in Europe. These teams include: Leeds United, Anderlecht, Oxford United, West Bromwich Albion, Colchester United, Cheltenham Town and his current team Rangers.
Kemar Roofe is a versatile player who has been used as an attacking midfielder, winger and striker for Scottish Premiership club Rangers. He is one of Rangers best players having scored an impressive 14 goals in 24 appearances in the Scottish premier league in the 2020/21 season.
He currently has one goal in 4 appearances for Jamaica.
Roofe is the cousin of British R&B & pop singer Jorja Smith. Roofe is active in the fashion industry where he runs a clothing range called Custom Rare together with his brother, Alex.
