Khadija “Bunny” Shaw has been awarded with an award for the Professional Footballers’ Association Women’s Player of the Year. The Reggae Girlz captain received this prestigious award after a spectacular season with Manchester City.
Shaw emerged as the best player in the Women’s Super League. The 27-year-old Shaw finished her season with 21 goals in 18 games.
She won the award ahead of Lauren Hemp and Yui Hasegawa — her two City teammates. The other players on the shortlist include Chelsea trio Niamh Charles, Lauren James and Erin Cuthbert.
Some of the other nominees include Manchester City’s Jess Park, Chelsea’s Aggie Beever-Jones, Manchester City’s Khiara Keating and Manchester United’s Maya Le Tissier.
Shaw was leading her team to a WSL league title before her season was stopped by a serious injury. Chelsea ended up winning the title on goal difference while City finished second.
“I is such an honor to recognized by my peers. I am happy to received the PFA award,” Shaw said.
“I wouldn’t be able to win this award if it wasn’t for my talented teammates. That’s why I would like to thank them as well as the whole coaching staff. I have been nominated together with other talented players, so congratulations to them for pushing me throughout the season,” she added.
This is the first time that the Jamaican star has won of this award. She also won the Women’s Super League Player of the Year and the Women’s Football Awards Player of the Year.
Meanwhile, the Young Player of the Year award want to midfielder Grace Clinton (Manchester United).
