Lethal Jamaican striker Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw was the stand-out performer when the Manchester City beat Everton in the Women’s Super League. Shaw scored her second hat-trick in the ongoing campaign.
Manchester City won the match with a 4-1 score-line. Manchester City has now won four games on the bounce. Manchester City is currently sat in second position with 22 points. They are 3 points behind league leaders Chelsea. Chelsea are also coming off a 3-0 win against Bristol City. This was Manchester city’s last game of the year and it was played at Walton Hall Park.
The 26-year-old got a chance to open the scoring in the eighth minute. However, she failed to convert her chance from the penalty spot. Her shot was saved by Everton goalkeeper Khiara Keating. The chance was created after Manchester City’s Laura Hemp was pulled down in the area. Shaw proceeded to score twice in the first half.
Shaw’s first goal came in the 9th minute. She received a pass from midfield and she proceeded to lob the Everton goalkeeper. The goalkeeper was left helpless as she watched the ball fly over her head and into the net.
In the 22nd minute, she doubled the lead with a low, powerful shot from the edge of the box.
City got their third goal when Dutch forward Jill Roord scored in the 25th minute. This goal meant that City went into the break with a 3-0 lead. However, Everton began their fight back with a second-half goal from Aurora Galli. The long-range strike came in the 56th minute.
However, City kept pushing for another goal and their efforts were rewarded when Shaw scored a header in the 65th minute. Shaw completed her ruthless streak when Alex Greenwood delivered a beautiful free kick into the box. Shaw’s final goal capped off an outstanding performance by Manchester City.
