Kia Hoping To Continue Swimming Dominance In 2025

She began 2025 with gold in the 200m medley relay, 100m freestyle, 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke

Jamaica’s Kia Alert has said that she will continue breaking records in 2025. The 13-year-old swimming sensation had incredible 2024. She is hoping to maintain her dominance as she moves into the 13-14 age group.

She captured four national titles as well as multiple gold medals in 2024.

Alert holds multiple records in the 11-12 age group category as she set a new national mark of 33.85 seconds in the 50m breaststroke as well as a time of one minute, 17.91 seconds in the 100m breaststroke.

She previously held a record time of 29.51 in the 50m freestyle event. She improved this record with a time of 27.28 in the same event.

RJRGLEANER declared her as the Aquatics Athlete of the Year. This award was in recognition of her impressive 2024 season. The ceremony was conducted earlier this month.

She reflected on her remarkable season by claiming that the award represents one of the best moment of her life.

“I’m glad that I have been recognized with this award. Not every 13-year-old wins this type of award. I will cherish this moment forever.”

“I appreciate every high point that I received. I broke many meet records as well as four national records. However, I know that I still have a long way to go in my career,” Alert said.

Alert has already began her 2025 season. In the last week, she participated in the ISSA High Schools and Tertiary Swim Meet. She is seeking further success in 2025.

“I will continue to push myself harder so that I can achieve the goals that I have set for myself. I am also under pressure to meet my coach’s goals.”

Alert showed that competing in a new age group would not affect her momentum. She dominated her competitors in her first event of 2025. She was competing in the ISSA High Schools and Tertiary Swim meet.

She won the High Point award in a contest that saw her go home with a silver medal and five gold medals. She was representing Hillel Academy.

She won gold in the 200m medley relay, 100m freestyle, 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke. All these results were in the 13-14 age group.

She also won gold when she was competing in the 100m breaststroke. She defeated competitors from both high schools and tertiary teams.

Alert has an ambition of representing Jamaica in the Olympic Games.
