This will be Thompson’s debut in the indoor event
Kishane Thompson; Jamaica’s Olympic medalist, is preparing for the Astana Indoor Meet. This event is expected to happen on January 25. This will be Thompson’s debut in the indoor event. It will be this year’s first World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting.
This will be the first time that the 23-year-old will race indoors in his career. Although this might be the case, he boasts of a PB of 6.67 for 60m. He set this record in 2022 during an indoor event. The organizers have confirmed that he will participate in the 60m event in Astana, Kazakhstan.
His last outing was in the 100m race while participating in the Paris Olympics. He secured a silver medal with a time of 9.79. This race was won by U.S.A’s Noah Lyles. Additionally, Thompson set a personal best of 9.77 last June while competing in the Jamaican Championships.
He will have to overcome world-class opposition when he shows up in Astana. One of his main competitors is Andre De Grasse of Canada, he finished sixth with a time of 6.66 when he competed in Astana in 2024. He is also the 200m champion of the Tokyo Olympic.
Jamaican Natasha Morrison will join twin sisters Tia and Tina Clayton in the women’s 60m. They will be joined by Anthonique Strachan from the Bahamas. The women’s 400m will feature Jamaican Janieve Russell and Sada Williams.
