Bailey’s goals have been important because Aston Villa is hoping to finish among the best four teams in the league. Villa came into the game sitting in the top four, they were looking to put in a dominant display against strugglers Bournemouth.
Unfortunately for Villa, it was the less fancied Bournemouth that looked more dominant. Bournemouth took an early lead a goal that that arrived in the first 10 minutes of the game. Semenyo produced a low strike that ended up in the bottom corner of goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez’s net. This goal was a result of a good move that was created by the home team.
However, Aston Villa refused to lie down and they hit back ten minutes later. Ollie Watkins passed the ball to Leon Bailey and the Jamaican produced a moment of individual brilliance. Bailey dribbled past two Bournemouth defenders before cutting in and shooting with his favorite left foot. Bournemouth goalkeeper Norberto Neto tried to save the shot but it was too powerful for him. This goal happened in the 20th minute.
Villa proved that they are a force to be reckoned with by adding another goal in the 22nd minute. However, the virtual reality referees ruled out the goal after determining that it was offside. Bournemouth regained their control of the match and they even created two clear-cut chances. However, they failed to capitalize on their opportunities. The two teams went into the break with a score-line of 1-1.
Bournemouth repeated their first half heroics with another quick goal in the beginning of the second half. Striker Dominick Solanke produced a ”poacher’s goal” inside the Aston Villa goal. this goal was created by an exquisite pass from Kerkez. This goal put Bournemouth 2=1 up in the 52nd minute. Solanke is the current top scorer of Bournemouth.
Villa found a late equalizer although Bournemouth continued dominate the second half. The goal came in the 90th minute when in-form striker Watkins scored a fantastic header. Moussa Diaby delivered a cross that found Watkins head. The lethal striker redirected the ball to find the bottom corner. There was no meaningful action after Watkins’s 90th minute strike. Aston Villa are currently sitting in fourth position with 29 points. They are only four points behind league leaders Arsenal.
