The Reggae Boy star provided most of the money that was used to build the $3 million family room
Kingston, Jamaica– The Bellevue Hospital will name their newly opened family room after footballer Leon Bailey. The Jamaican winger is one of the star players in Aston Villa.
The Reggae Boy star provided most of the money that was used to build the $3 million family room. Other sponsors include Suzette Thompson and the Bounty Killer Foundation. Thompson provided the funds because the hospital has been treating her relative for the last 20 years.
The ribbon cutting ceremony was conducted without the presence of Bailey. He was training with his Aston Villa teammates as they prepared to face Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League. However, he made a video call in which he thanked the hospital for giving him an opportunity to help vulnerable people.
“Hey guys, I have to travel to Belgium because we have a Champions League game. Although I couldn’t attend the ribbon cutting ceremony, I would love to thank everyone involved in this project,” he said. “I believe that this family room will make it easy to access quality healthcare. I love Jamaicans and that’s why I’m passionate about helping them. I would like to thank Bellevue Hospital for this opportunity. I will try to be the best ambassador I can.”
According to Ramone Baxter; who is Bailey’s manager, the player will continue with his philanthropy by making another donation to the hospital. This figure is expected to be $500,000. Baxter revealed that the Reggae Boy will make this donation in two weeks when he returns to Jamaica.
The donation was used to install multiple air-conditioning units in the family room. They also added some audio-visual equipment. The visitors can now feel comfortable when they visit patients because the facility has also added numerous pieces of furniture.
Relatives can also connect with patients using the audio-visual equipment that has been provided by the sponsors. They can communicate using video chat. The hospital also hung and framed ‘’Leon Bailey” jerseys. They also installed various artworks that have been done by patients.
The room will host various kinds of meetings. Staff members will use these meetings to discuss the well-being of the patients.
