Stephen McClaren; the new Reggae Boyz coach, revealed that he’s excited to lead the national team in the upcoming matches.
McClaren is currently preparing for the Nations League. The Englishman’s first match is expected to happen in August. He revealed that he has been contacting the players and studying their films.
“I’ve been preparing for Cuba on September 6 and that’s why I’ve been watching previous games. It’s an honor to lead a nation into major competitions. I’m genuinely excited by this project,” said McClaren.
The 63-year-old revealed that he has been impressed by the abundance of talented players in the Caribbean nation. He believes that the level of coaching should improve drastically in order to exploit this talents. He advised the Jamaica Football Federation to invest in local coaches. There should be an investment in ‘B’ license coaches.
The ex Manchester United assistant coach said that he noticed that the players have a very strong bond. He revealed that he intends to use this foundation to create a team that can compete in big games.
McClaren said that he hopes to instill a strong mentality into his players because he doesn’t want any complacency. He said that every team will believe that they have a chance to clinch a spot in the World Cup in 2026. The Mexico, USA and Canada national teams have already qualified for this tournament. These three nations are expected to co-host the tournament. It will be easier to qualify for this tournament but McClaren insists that his team can’t take anything for granted.
McClaren is expected to lead the team in the Nations League or the World Cup qualifiers.
