McClaren Names JPL-Heavy Reggae Boyz Squad

The first game will happen on 7:30 p.m. on February 6 at Montego Bay Sports Complex

Steve McClaren has named a Reggae Boyz squad that is mostly composed of players from the Jamaican Premiere League. The players are expected to play in two friendlies versus Trinidad and Tobago.

The 28-man squad is missing most of the big names who play for European clubs. McClaren; who is the Reggae Boyz coach, said that this is an opportunity for local-based players to break into his first team.

“We are hoping to identify talented players who can claim a spot in the Jamaican senior team. It will be similar to what we did the last time. Kaheem Dixon, Richard King and Shaquan Davis are some of the players who emerged in the last camp,” he said.

The latest squad is made up of fifteen players who will be wearing the national team colors for the first time. They include Cavalier’s Jalmaro Calvin.

During the last JPL season, the 21-year-old was one of the leading goalscorers. He was one of the best performers in the Concacaf Caribbean Cup.

He also boasts of being the leading goalscorer in the current league season. He caught McClaren’s eye with his 11 goals. McClaren described him as a “skillful player who has an eye for goals.

The first game will happen on 7:30 p.m. on February 6 at Montego Bay Sports Complex. The second match will happen at 8 p.m on February 9 at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex in Arnett Gardens.

McClaren said that he expects an improved performance from T&T now that Dwight Yorke is their boss.
