According to sources, the star will be sidelined for a long period as he undergoes rehabilitation
Michail Antonio has said that he is ‘happy to get another chance in life’ after being released from hospital. He is currently working on his recovery together with his doctors.
The Jamaica international footballer is nursing injuries gotten from a car crash that happened in the beginning of December.
“I’m working hard to get back on the pitch. I wish you a Happy New Year,” said the West Ham striker. He was speaking to English premier league fans through a post that was published West Ham’s official website.
Julen Lopetegui; the West Ham coach, initially described Antonio as a man who had seen a “miracle.”
The 34-year-old striker had to undergo surgery on a lower limb. This procedure was meant to fix a fracture that he sustained in the one-car incident.
According to sources, the star will be sidelined for a long period as he undergoes rehabilitation.
“Over the years, I have lacked a perfect answer when people ask me what I’m grateful for at the end of every year,” Antonio said. “However, now I know that being alive is the best thing that has happened to me this year.”
Antonio thanked everyone who had played a role in rescuing him, including the air ambulance and emergency services. He also thanked West Ham players, coaches and staff members.
Antonio joined West Ham in 2015 after a stint in Nottingham Forest.
He has established himself as a West Ham legend. He boasts of being the club’s all time goal scorers. He has more than 300 appearances for the London-based club.
He had accumulated 14 appearances this season before he suffered from the injury.
Antonio’s teammates wore “Antonio 9” shirts after the accident. This happened in West Ham’s game versus Wolverhampton. They also offered donations to Air Ambulances UK and the NHS.
West Ham released a statement in which they thanked the NHS, air ambulance staff, emergency services and other first responders.
