National Stadium To Be Upgraded For Atleast US$4m

IPL has installed additional LED lamps in order to ensure that FIFA requirements are observed

The National Stadium is expected to be upgraded for a cost of US$4 million. Jamaica wants to reach world-class standard by improving their lighting infrastructure.
The Ministry of Finance and the Public Service recently released $75million to ensure that this work is completed.
Major Desmon Brown, the General Manager of the Independence Park Limited, revealed the the upgrades will be completed by Friday, September 6. The officials want the stadium to be ready by the time the Reggae Boyz compete against Cuba in a Nations League match.
According to Brown, they have installed additional LED lamps in order to ensure that FIFA requirements are observed.
“We have been forced to do this rehabilitation because we have old lamps that had malfunctioned. We have installed new lamps to ensure the old ones don’t blow,” he said.
Brown revealed that they are using the government’s funds “to supplement the existing lamps as well as introducing wires and transformers”.
This was required because4 the old lights have been in the stadium for over 25 years old and no company is producing similar models.
The redevelopment project will involve reinventing the entire lighting system once the budget is approved. The lights will also be installed in other areas such as the swimming pool.
The IPL manages the National Arena, Stadium East, National Aquatic Centre and the National Indoor Sports Centre. The is responsible for the Stadium complex and all sport facilities.
