Jamaican international Shamar Nicholson scored a second half goal that helped Clermont Foot secure a 1-1 draw with Strasbourg.
The two teams created many goal-scoring opportunities in the first half. However, Strasbourg was the sharper of the two teams. Strasbourg got the lead when Moïse Sahi pounced on an easy chance in the opponent’s box. The Ivory Coast forward scored his goal in the 34th minute.
Nicholson and his teammates tried to fight back but they were forced to settle for a first half draw.
Clermont Foot’s persistence was rewarded when Shamar Nicholson finished off a chance in the 52nd minute. This goal was created by French winger Bilal Boutobba. Nicholson showed great poacher’s instincts to finish off a “typical striker’s goal.”
The Jamaican striker was forced to come off in the 62nd minute after he picked up an injury. He was replaced by French striker Grejohn Kyei. Jamaican fans will be hoping that Nicholson’s injury isn’t serious. This is because they will need his goals when the Reggae Boyz when they compete in the next qualifiers.
The Reggae Boyz’s next game will be against the United States on 22nd March. The two teams will be competing in the semi-final of the Concacaf Nations League. The Jamaican team team will then move on to the Copa America tournament. Jamaica is in the same group as Venezuala, Ecuador and Mexico.
